In a Perfect World...

I assigned a chart for students to complete by Tuesday. They have to define and then give the immediate impact, explain who was directly affected (individuals and/or groups), and then explain the ripple effects on society of the following four things: Martin Luther, Printing Press, Heliocentric Theory, and Scientific Method.

In class, we read an excerpt from Sir Thomas More's Utopia. Maybe this will cut down on the bling these kids admire so much. After answering some questions, I showed them an episode of The Simpsons which sees the family attend a Renaissance Fair. Nice way to end the week, I believe.

Memory

Today's class was about memory - I gave a quick lecture yesterday about Luther and Protestantism, followed by a 20 minute video covering the same material. In class today, you took a quiz on what was presented. It should tell me and you if you need to work on focusing. After that, we analyzed the process.

My favorite excuse given for not doing well on these types of assessments is, "I have ADD." If that is the case, you should have some medication. If not, you should have some means to help you focus. Either way, no employer is going to excuse you from knowing how to do your job after training you. Sometimes you just have to work harder...and when you move on to the world beyond high school, you'll see what competition is really like.

In college, you will be a number. No name, no face - just a number. They won't care if your alarm didn't go off or if you had difficulty sleeping last night. It's about performance and accountability. STart preparing for such a world here and now...

And so it begins...

My first posting for World History. I hope people actually use this. Today in class, I lectured a bit about Luther and Protestantism. Then you watched a short video about the same thing - I sent you home with a handout that had video-related questions. You were/are to take 5-15 minutes to answer what you can. Good luck.
